11th - 17th August 2007 The Royal Anglesey Yacht Club, Beaumaris by Jean Reed Roy English, Commodore of The Royal Anglesey Yacht Club, welcomed the Miracle Fleet to the National Championships. 31 boats entered with an almost equal split between Gold, Silver and Bronze fleets. Winds throughout the week were 4-5 with rough seas. Most races were sailed over the sand banks on the Menai Straites, with the exception of Monday when the Race Officer took us into the bay where the conditions were less fierce. Although most of the fleet chose to beat into the Straites, where the winds and tide were more beneficial. After some hard fought races, Paul Huett with son Callum in 3825, David Raines and wife Michelle 3740, were always in the first two places. With the odd 3 or 4 place discard, Paul finished as the overall Miracle Champion with 11 points, with David in second place with 13 points. Wayne Atherton and Steve Wroe in Merlin, 3383, and David Southwell with daughter Danielle in Metamorphosis, 3807, finished on equal points but Wayne and Steve came in 3rd on countback. Tracy Amos with daughter Gemma won the top Lady Helm Trophy in 6th place, with Geoff and Janet Phillips in 7th winning the GRID Silver Spoon. Winning the Silver Fleet Trophy in 14th Position was Ashley Southwell and Mark Atherton, in 3800. Second place went to Richard Smith and dad Mike in 3493, followed in 16th place by Rene Savelli and Angela Sweeney, 3414, who also won the Tom Pearson Trophy. In 20th position and top of the Bronze Fleet were Martin Burgess and niece Carmela, 1204, second place went to Steve Bloomfield and son Matthew, 2018, followed by Steve Coldicott and Ian Stone in third place, 4007. Also to Dave and Jean Reed, Miracle Race Secretary and Hon. Sec. Mike Butterfield, Race Officer and his team set good Championship courses on the Menai Straites. A Wonderful sailing area and one of the most spectacular, set between the mountains of Snowdonia and the hill of Anglesey. Thanks to the Royal Anglesey Yacht Club who were as always most welcoming.
