"We had such a good time with the Miracle, we took it on holiday to the West coast of Scotland and used it for fishing and sailing - or racing at the local club. I learnt to helm in the Miracle, while Dad crewed for me. We did everything with it - it was part of the family." - Shirley Robertson.

Many precious childhood memories have been forged in a Miracle, and many world class sailor's first sailing experiences were in a Miracle. Foremost sailboat designer Jack Holt's objective was to produce a general purpose family craft, drawing upon the immense success of the Mirror dinghy and other designs (such as the GP14, Enterprise, Cadet, Hornet, Pacer, Solo, and Streaker). What resulted is a boat who's foresail is small enough for little nippers to easily handle, stable and roomy enough for the whole family, yet light enough for Dad to launch and retrieve on his own.

Boys will be boys!

The Class Association therefore, tends to attract a large proportion of families or parent/child combinations, producing a friendly, fun family atmosphere at the many events it organises. At any open event or championship there's inevitably several youth awards or trophies, including an award for the "youngest crew". Go just about anywhere on this site and you'll see evidence of the prominence that families have within the class.

Through formative years of active involvement with the class, some young sailors have developed very high sailing standards. Just last year Mark Heather became Topper World Champion having only stepped out of his father's Miracle some 20 months previously!

A picture says a thousand words, so here follows a few thousand words which capture the spirit of Miracle family sailing...
