21st - 22nd April South Shields Sailing Club
Monohull Regatta: Racing for non-asymmetric dinghies of PY1386 (Mirror) or less 5 races over the two days; Registration from 09:00 on Saturday Race area to be outside piers (subject to ODs discretion). Entry Fee: Double handers - £20, Single handers - £15 About the Club: Based on the mouth of the river Tyne adjacent to the Groyne at Littlehaven Beach. The Sailing Club offers a variety of sailing conditions in the Tyne Harbour or outside in the scenic surroundings off Marsden Bay. In recent years the club has twice hosted the Miracle Nationals. How to get there: The sailing club is easily reached from the A1 motorway: From The South After the Washington Birtley services bear off the A1 towards the Tyne Tunnel At the end of the motorway roundabout bear straight ahead signposted for South Shields At the next roundabout go straight ahead for South Shields and passing on the right the Lakeside Inn. At the next roundabout straight ahead for South Shields. Through the traffic lights and over a bridge to 2 more roundabouts with an Esso garage on the right. Bear right under a railway bridge after the Esso garage and heading for South Shields. At the next roundabout straight across but keep to the left ready for another roundabout and signposted to the left for Riverside. Follow the riverside road for approx. 1 mile passing the new courthouse on the right and to yet again a double roundabout where you cross straight over. The last roundabout is immediately ahead and you go straight over still following the river and over a concrete arched bridge. Follow the road down to the low level and the sailing club is immediately after the new white and brick towered housing. Go past the first compound and turn left at the next road. Work your way back onto the launching ramp and the main compound gates
From The North Follow A19 to the Tyne Tunnel immediately after leaving the Tyne Tunnel take the 2nd exit off the roundabout for the A185 signposted South Shields. Follow this road for approx. 1mile passing an industrial estate on the right and going through a set of traffic lights. At the roundabout take the first exit left. Bear right under a railway bridge after the Esso garage and heading for South Shields. At the next roundabout straight across but keep to the left ready for another roundabout and signposted to the left for Riverside.
